Learning to Rest amidst the Busy

August 2023 Reflection

When people train for marathons, they can join a pacing group to prepare for the race. Some pacing groups are slower and others are faster. I knew that I had signed up for a “fast” pacing group by joining my leader, Christy, but I was determined to keep up.

I landed in Kona on Wednesday, August 2, thinking we would begin our workshops the following Monday, but it turned out that workshops would go from Thursday August 3-20. Let’s just say, I jumped right into it 🏄🏻‍♀️.

After having 6 months of abundant, unstructured free time, I was not used to going back to the grind. I found myself thinking why is it so busy 😩, and the Holy Spirit would remind me all those months when I was waiting for a job, I would say to myself why is it so slow. The grass often seems greener on the other side. There is a purpose in every season and I needed to learn how to surf the wave 🏄🏻‍♀️.

How do I find grace in the quick and full moments? For me, it looked like taking mini-breaks to rest during the full schedule. If I were to be completely honest with myself, it is hard for me to admit to my leader that I cannot do something. I love being the one who can solve the problem. I love to be excellent 🏅 and to go above and beyond🏃🏻‍♀️. That being said, I have learned that rest is a wonderful gift 🎁 from God and a nature of God. When God created the universe, He worked 6 days and rested on the 7th day. Because I was created in the likeness of God, I am also designed to rest.
