Treasuring Family Time

October 2023 Reflection

In my June reflection, I wrote about how I was led to take the job at Original Design Co. for professional growth, but as more time passed, I realized joining ODCo. was also a personal blessing for me. Yes, I learned how to work & rest and how to embrace my gifts, but I was able to reconnect with my family in Hawaii.

Visiting Maui Family

After I landed in Kona on August 2, a few days later my family in Lahaina lost their homes and businesses to the tragic wildfire. It was so sad for my family. I was able to chat on the phone shortly after the event as well as visit them in-person during the Labor Day Weekend since Maui is only 36 minute plane ride from Kona. I am so thankful that we were able to have time together for my family to express their grief and sorrow as well as be together in unity. During challenging moments in life, we all need comfort and hope ❤️!

Visiting Grandma

In addition to visiting my family on Maui, I was grateful stay with my Popo. Since my Gong Gong’s passing 2 years ago, I have been concerned about how my grandma would adjust to living by herself. I was delighted to find out that she has been finding much joy in caring for baby cousin, Lisa 👧🏻 giving her baths, playing with her, and feeding her.

My grandma spent a majority of her life working. Both sides of my family are very creative in finding multiple streams of income. In China, Popo had multiple jobs to save enough money to bring her family of 5 from China to America and in America, she continued to work multiple jobs to achieve the American Dream. I am so thankful that she has taken this season to slow down and enjoy her family. I love seeing my grandma’s smiles 😊.

Had I taken another job, I do not think I would have the flexibility to be with my family in Hawaii. These are all moments that I want to treasure and hold close to my heart❤️.
